[Junebug Weddings] features Philadelphia Styled Shoot | the Horticulture Center

I have been following the wedding blog, Junebug Weddings, for years now. It is classy, creative, and highlights some of the best wedding photography in the world.

I have had a love affair with the Philadelphia Horticulture Center since I moved back to the area 5 years ago.

These two wonderful pieces have come together for me today with the publication of an insanely beautiful inspiration shoot led by the lovely Sarah of Juniper & Dash. It is filled to the brim with quirky and elegant elements that will make you drool. I will have my full write-up on this shoot soon but please rush over to Junebug Weddings right now to take it all in!

[DIY Bride] features DE and PA wedding | Jackie + Chang

It is no surprise that I have couples that can craft and design a gorgeous wedding, infusing it with their own hearts and souls. Jackie and Chang are one such couple. (Though let’s be real here - Jackie is the design diva of the pair.)

This is why it was also no surprise that my very first wedding to appear on the crafty and inspirational wedding blog, DIY Bride, belonged to them. Please check it out to see more!

Philadelphia Wedding Photographer | Morris House Hotel | Sheila + Sanjay [teaser]

After Sheila and Sanjay’s wedding, I wish every wedding were a weekend-long affair! It was fantastic to spend two days with these two and their nearest and dearest for their Hindu and Jewish weddings at Philly’s Morris House Hotel. More coming up soon!

Philadelphia Engagement Photographer | West Fairmount Park | Meredith + Dwayne

It’s true: Meredith and Dwayne met at a bar 3 years ago. Before you get any ideas, Meredith was there for a fundraising event (I have no excuses for Dwayne – he was there for a bachelor party). Dwayne got her number and used it (twice) to set up a date at Chris’ Jazz Café in Philly – a really great little venue downtown. Thus began a relationship that brings us to this upcoming weekend when Meredith and Dwayne tie the knot.

First we had to get in some engagement pictures. It was chilly but we made it work at the desolate West Fairmont Park by the Horticulture Center.

I’m so impressed by their relationship. She works 60 hours a week as a principal in a Philadelphia middle school and Dwayne is in DC during the week as a Medical Service Corps Officer. When they are together, there are lots of sports and going out to eat. And a lot of laughing.

On Valentine’s Day last year Dwayne surprised her with an Oceanfront room at Revel. They went to dinner at Serafina where he slickly slid the ring across the table. She demanded “are you sure?!” several times before giving him a ‘yes.’ The engagement ring is gorgeous and so unique!

We’re all very lucky that Meredith’s parents did not have to take out ads in Indian papers to find her the perfect mate. I am looking forward to seeing these two again this weekend for what is sure to be a fantastic wedding at Aldie Mansion!

[the value of] a Professional

This is a story of one very amateur crafter who knew her place in the world.

It begins with a giddy couple and their brand new house. Their heritage (her a Scot, he a Jew) made the name of their Philly castle quite obvious: Glen Yiddish. She loved all things Pinterest and set about to make a plaque for their abode. She found slate on a string, some paint, a font she loved, and figured, “how hard could this be?”

She made an attempt to lightly imprint a reverse image onto the slate (genius, right?).
Not so much.

Our heroine flipped it over and attempted to just free-hand it. Splotches were made. Mistakes were, um, "revised" with more paint. The end product was passable... from a distance.

The kind-hearted fiancé spoke words of encouragement. The mother thought it was marvelous (“Surely my daughter can do anything!”). But the heroine knew better. She knew her attempt was noble (not among the ranks of Regretsy or Pinstrosity) but was not the glorious signage Glen Yiddish deserved.

There are superheroes who do this for a living. One such is Kate of Kate Farley Design. She emerged from the womb, feathered quill in hand, scrawling the most beautiful lettering this side of Narnia.

Lo and behold, Hand Letterer Superhero Kate whipped up something above and beyond anything this amateur crafter could muster.

Moral of the story: There is certainly something to be said for the pride of a great, successful DIY (please note Andy’s wonderful hook rack) but there is a reason we have professionals. If it is important enough, pay a professional who has the patience, vision, and expertise that comes from years of experience. They can do work that blows away the amateurs/weekend warriors/novices.

Yes, I’m talking about weddings now and, when you’ve seen enough of them, you know the magnificent product that happens when you have a team of qualified wedding planners, make-up artists, musicians, videographers, caterers, florists, calligraphers...  If it’s important to you, don’t skimp. It won’t look like it did on Pinterest unless you use people who have mastered their craft.

I am a photographer (not a videographer, seamstress, architect, dentist, or hand letterer).

[You Mean the World to Me] features Philadelphia Styled Shoot | Morris House Hotel

What fun! Our Philadelphia Morris House Hotel styled shoot is featured on the quirky international wedding blog, You Mean the World to Me!

I love this sweet chevron-accented shoot that I did with design and florals by Papertini, cake by Ciao Bella, and paper by Paper Rock Scissors. It has flirty and fun coral and mint flourishes and a ring bearer too cute for words!
