Imaging USA recap

I got back from beautiful and sunny 70 degree Tampa last week. I was glad to come back home after being away for three weeks though I have to admit that I wanted to get right back on that plane once I saw San Francisco and it's cold, rainy mess. I was in Florida for Imaging USA, one of the industry's biggest conventions. It was an absolute blast (except for the 7am seminars! Bleh!). As promised, I worked on my picture-a-day commitment while I was there.

I roomed with Julie of Julie Cheshire Photography and made friends with another photographer, Jennifer Witz, who photographs portraits in the Bellevue, WA area. Being that the convention was in Tampa, the theme was pirates and we certainly took advantage of it. We met up with a great Jack Sparrow look-alike and got some fun pictures the night of the welcome party. (I'll refrain from showing the one with Julie – she'd kill me.)

I was overwhelmed with the expo. It was filled to the brim with new and fun stuff. I did such a good job by just browsing but I finally gave in during the last 30 minutes of the expo and bought a 4GB card and a brand new Wacom tablet, something I've been eyeing for a while now.

There was a final party the last night of the convention. I couldn't resist from snapping a few shots while I was there. This is Jennifer again. She is just freaking hilarious. We've got to get together for some photo field trips.

It was held at the Tampa aquarium which was a really impressive aquarium. Is it just me or are jellyfish the most photogenic things in the world?

I've come back with so many ideas that I hardly know where to start! Keep on the look out for a few changes and new products coming your way from Lindsay Docherty Photography!

Family Session back in Raliegh, NC

Have I got a treat for you!

I went back to Raleigh, North Carolina for a part of the holidays and met up with some of my absolute favorite clients, Katie and Erik. This time there was one more addition to the group: Ava! Last time I saw Ava, she looked like this:

We went to Pullen Park for family portraits and it was the first time I actually got to meet her. I can't believe she'll be a year old in March.

We took some pictures of everyone and it became pretty clear that she loves her mommy but she's definitely daddy's little girl. Katie is with her all day and Ava gets so excited to see her daddy when he comes home from work. Of course she had no problem making sure Erik knew who was the boss of the household – she broke into giggles after playfully slapping Erik a few times.

They are a fabulous couple and so completely in love. This was the fourth time I photographed them and they just exude love for one another. Now that Ava is in the picture, Erik is nothing but a huge softie.

Taking my advice, Katie brought a ton of clothes for Ava who didn't mind one bit. It was unseasonably warm but how can you not try on this cute little parka for a few minutes?

It pains me to be so far away from them. I'm sad enough that I missed so much of Ava's first year. I got a birth announcement and Christmas card before even seeing her. I can't wait to return to Raleigh the next time to see how much bigger she has grown.

And here's a new offering from Lindsay Docherty Photography: Bits & Pieces collages! These beautiful images are printed on square canvas fine art prints starting at 16"x16". They are absolutely classic and feature all of the baby bits and pieces that make this age completely adorable. (And I needed an excuse to highlight Ava's stunning eyelashes!)

Thanks Katie, Erik, and Ava! See you next time I'm on the East Coast! Don't let her get too big without me!

Imaging USA in Tampa

I hope everyone had a great holiday and New Years!

I'm off to Imaging USA in Tampa, FL today. I'll be hanging out with a good friend for a few days and then I'll be seeped in nothing but photography goodness from dawn til dusk for days. I can't wait and hopefully I'll have some fun shots for you when I return.

Last year my resolution was to take at least one picture a day for 100 consecutive days and I think I got to around 120 and only missed 3 days. Things started to get busy and hectic in April and it fell by the wayside. I'm going to go for it again this year. It's fun to challenge myself in seeing the art in daily life and some of my best pictures came from experimenting for my resolution.

Since I'm not at my home computer I don't have a picture for today but I'll have a ton to post when I get back. I'm so excited to get them up! There were so many shoots during "vacation" on the East Coast.

I'll be flying back January 11th so my email responding will probably be spotty until then. See you soon and stay warm!
