Kate + Sean: Wedding at John James Audubon Center

Kate and Sean have known each other for years. And years. And years. Since first grade, in fact. They've been together for about that long too (give or take a decade or so). They're the adorable couple I whose engagement session I photographed around their neighborhood in Philly back in April. This nature/bird-themed wedding might just blow your mind. Be prepared.

We started the day at a hotel in Audubon. The bridesmaids happened to represent each stage of Kate's life: a sister, a friend from high school, college, grad school, and work. I loved Kate's details – adorable (yet comfortable) red patent leather flats, borrowed earrings, a Phillies garter (game 6 of the NLCS was that night). She also had custom purses for each of the ladies (via Etsy, of course!).

Not far away, the guys were prepping for the day.

The wedding was held at the historic John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove (about 20 miles outside of Philadelphia). It was home to John James Audubon, the renowned artist and naturalist. Kate and Sean played up this aspect and incorporated so many delightful touches into their wedding to make it seem like the place was made for their wedding. You'll see...

We set up a first sight for Kate and Sean before taking some of the "formals".

We had a chance to wander the grounds. The place was fantastic. I had been wanting to shoot a wedding at the JJAC for ages. It boasts 175 acres nature with trails along the Perkiomen Creek, a great stone farmhouse/museum, a barn, and the colors were extraordinary.

I absolutely loved their Ketubah. It's was a painting on canvas and the most unique I've seen.

The Jewish ceremony began at sunset with music by Kate's Aunt Ruth and family friend, Bob. Guests were treated to hot apple cider and wraps to help stay warm.

The cocktail hour was held in the barn. Jeffrey A. Miller Catering provided the food, which was to die for! There were cheeses, grilled vegetables, a buckwheat blini station, and butlered hors d'oeuvres (micro cheeseburgers, lamb kabobs, latkes, sashimi tuna cones…). There was also an awesome assortment of beers.

Escort cards were created on a rustic setup with clothespins, string, lace, lattice and featured the bird theme. (Little bird figurines were seen all over the place that day.)

As if that wasn't enough, we were treated to a guest appearance by a live owl. Too cool!

The reception was held in the tented pavilion. I love this place with it's exposed wooden beams.

Astrograss, a lively bluegrass band from New York was incredible. Kate and Sean danced their first dance to Sarah McLachlan's "Ice Cream".

This was such a fun group and it was great to see some familiar faces from high school. Astrograss seriously rocked it!

These self-proclaimed food people couldn't have gone without delicious reception food too: branzino or filet and some spectacular dessert goodies. There were chocolate truffles, cheesecake lollipops, caramel apples, and s'mores created in the fireplace of the pavilion. Oh, and cake.

The day was incredible. Such a beautiful wedding. And Kate and Sean – so relaxed, so happy, so in love. Perfection, really.

thankful...

Our first snowfall of the season comes on Thanksgiving. There's a special kind of wonderful in that.

I'm thankful for every moment.

I Ran to Stop MS

Yesterday I ran the first race of my life – Philadelphia's half marathon. It was completely exhilarating. The crowds were awesome and my mix totally kept me going. I was singing (or at least mouthing the words) through most of the run. The end result is one small blister and a whole lotta pride. I can't wait to do it again. Maybe a marathon; who knows?

My time was 1:51:53! I ran it in under 2 hours (a secret goal).

I want to thank the following people for donating to stop MS, a cause that is very close to my heart.

  • Seeing Mrs. Kopf. Twice!
  • Singing along to Kanye's "Stronger" by the zoo
  • Sign: "Run if you're horny"
  • Taking the split to the finish line rather than mile 14
  • Hearing Timmy yell "L Doc!" on the home stretch
  • Grinning like a fool while crossing the finish line
  • Meeting some of the other MS KarmaStriders
  • Laughing with team captain, Paul Goldstone
  • Seeing Dave Gloss after the race
  • The fantastic bath when I got home
  • Surpassing my goal of $1500 and raising over $2100 for the fight against Multiple Sclerosis
It's not too late to donate. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society will use funds collected from your pledge to support cutting edge research projects, as well as provide programs which address the needs of people living with MS today. Because we can do something about MS and donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society are helping to change the world right now, we are getting closer to the hour when no one will have to hear the words, "You have MS."

Michelle + Mike: Chester County Wedding at the Brandywine Manor House

Michelle and Mike are hilarious. They held their wedding at the Brandywine Manor House in Honeybrook, PA (about an hour west of Philadelphia). Sure, it was a little chilly and the wind got pretty awful, but these two looked amazing and the sky, well, you'll see…

The day started off incredible. Huge puffy clouds set against fantastic blue skies. I love this hand-painted sign at the entrance to the manor.

The girls partied it up while getting ready in the bridal suite. Michelle herself had some pretty gorgeous accessories. Despite losing some blue heels just prior to the wedding day, Michelle had a pair of adorable ivory flats, some great jewelry (something borrowed), and a hair clip that she wore for the reception (from Etsy, of course!). Her Casablanca lace gown fit her perfectly.

I was gaga over the florals by Fleur De Lis out of Paoli, PA, especially the acorn-adorned boutonnieres. Seriously, how gorgeous are these bouquets with dahlias, eucalyptus leaves, berries, hydrangeas, freesia, and more I didn't even recognize. Michelle's bouquet was especially meaningful – it was created out of a mix of white flowers and her mother's own silk bouquet from her wedding day (something old). How lovely is that?

We took the girls' pictures and Michelle basked in the last moment's of the day's sun before we got overcast (but really beautiful) skies. She is such a classically gorgeous bride. Those incredible blue eyes, dark hair, and light skin…

The ceremony was held on the grounds out by the lake. Brandywine Manor House is so well maintained. It looked phenomenal. Yellow, green, and orange trees surrounded us. The ceremony included musicians, singing, a hands blessing, unity candle and breaking of the glass.

We used the last of our light to take some family photographs and then wandered off with Michelle and Mike for pictures of just the two of them while the guests headed into the tent for the cocktail hour. I don't think I need to say that the sky was freaking amazing. Breathtaking.

The reception rocked. The tent has great swaths of fabric covering the ceiling, chandeliers, twinkle lights, and paper lanterns. Margaux from Fleur de Lis created a beautiful garland for the chandelier above the dance floor as well as the classy centerpieces and sign for Michelle and Mike. Tables were named after all of the national parks that they have visited over the years. And name cards were displayed on small pieces of wood. There were so many little details that made this wedding fantastic.

The two danced their first song to Second Vision's rendition of Steve Earle's "Sparkle & Shine".

Triple Fresh provided the catering and even whipped up some potato pancakes in acknowledgment of the couple's Eastern European heritage.

The guests were a blast. Trust me when I tell you that Mike's buddies have some moves! And don't mess with Michelle's specialty, "The Shower". The group was definitely appreciative that the wedding didn't fall on a Phillies game night.

In addition to the cake by Henning's Market, guests were treated to hot cider, caramel covered apples, and a dessert bar.

It was a fantastic day. Michelle and Mike exited the scene in an orange hotrod named "Wild Bill". Yeah, they're that awesome.

Michelle and Mike, thank you for everything! All the best on your Australian honeymoon and what is sure to be a loving, fun life together!
