Photography Convention in San Antonio, Texas

The other week I ventured into Texas, no small undertaking, I assure you. I went to learn, become inspired, participate in shootouts, and meet new photographer friends. I am happy to report that I accomplished all of my goals and then some!

They were a fabulous few days surrounded by some of the best photographers in the world. I attended the intimate DWF Convention, a convention that piggy backs on the more massive Imaging USA every January. I checked out the enormous expo and picked up just a few goodies.

Here are just a few images from my time there…

It was pretty incredible to watch Jerry Ghionis do his thing.

Being the bonehead that I am, I didn’t bring nearly enough business cards so I had to make my own:

We had some photographer shootouts which were just a blast. The San Antonio Riverwalk has some fantastic locations for shooting and we certainly made the most of it.

Sometimes the hunters become the hunted…

It was just awesome. Thank you to DWF for putting on such a great event, for the speakers for imparting such wisdom, to the models for their grace and style. And, of course, a huge thank you to my fellow photographers for sharing knowledge and experiences, having impromptu photo sessions and late night heart to hearts, and knowing how to have a good time.

Can’t wait for next year’s convention in New Orleans!

LDP Spring 2011 Bridal Shows Announced

Wedding planning is in full swing. It’s not too surprising that early in the year is an incredibly busy booking time – a slew of holiday proposals, New Year’s resolutions, Valentine’s Day, etc. It’s also the start of bridal shows, which generally pop up during the spring and fall.

Today is my first bridal show of the year. Mark and I will be at Knowlton Mansion from noon to 4pm manning the fabulous Lindsay Docherty Photography booth and available to answer any question your little heart desires (photography-wise, that is. You might want to consult a life coach, CPA, doctor, or guru for those other questions). The catch is that you have to be there.

Here are the details:
What: The NE Philly Bridal Event at Knowlton Mansion with Conroy Catering
When: today, January 30th from noon to 4pm
Where: Knowlton Mansion 8001 Verree Road (entrance on Rhawn St.), Philadelphia, PA
Why: mix and mingle with some of Philly’s finest wedding vendors

Show up and you’re bound to see me. I’ll be in the big, green, “living room” booth. Here are some shots from our last bridal show in November held at Glen Foerd Mansion (one of Knowlton’s sister venues).

See you there!

In Texas Getting Schooled

I'm going to be M.I.A. for the next few days. I'll be in San Antonio, Texas for a photography convention. I'll be spending my days steeped in educational workshops, industry discussions, kick ass shoot-outs, an overwhelming expo, and generally getting my photo on!

I thrive on learning and get so psyched for the yearly convention. Remember that nerdy kid who loved taking notes and using her highlighters? Yeah, that was me. I'm thrilled for the hands-on fun and classroom lessons.

If you're another photographer attending either the DWF Convention or Imaging USA and want to meet up for coffee of drinks, just let me know!

Because of this, I can't guarantee my response time to emails for the next week. I promise to respond as soon as I return. You can always try me on my cell at 215-703-7717. If you've even been to these conventions, you know that they're intense!

See you in a week!

Happy 2011!

There's so much to say about 2010. I've been back in the Philly area for two years now and can hardly believe how lovingly I've been welcomed and embraced by my old home. I showed up in December 2008 – the recession had just hit and things were bad. I knew merely a handful of people around here and absolutely no professional connections to help me get established. 2009 was rough for all of us. I wondered if I'd made the right decision in moving from San Francisco. I had forgotten how cold this area could get. I missed my friends on the west coast. But I also photographed some beautiful weddings. I started meeting other wedding people. I began to understand the differences in east coast vs. west coast weddings.

2010 was looking up. Brides found LDP through friends and family, wedding coordinators, other wedding vendors, online review sites, and bridal fairs. I shot weddings all over the area. From an 8 person wedding to a guest list of 300. It was a great year.

Not only that but I moved to a new address, got in better shape, ran a half marathon, raised money for multiple sclerosis, and built stronger friendships.

And now we're at 2011 and I'm blown away by how lucky I've been. I rang in the new year with an incredible couple (congrats, Trish & Tom!) and a truly awesome wedding. My calendar is filling up with the most amazing couples (you'll see!). They're laid back, hilarious, adorable and (knock on wood) don't seem to have one ounce of bridezilla to them. I'm thrilled for the new venues I'll see this year and psyched to see familiar faces at reception facilities and in bridal parties.

So much has happened in the past 2 years and I'm just amazed. Amazed and grateful. Thank you to each and every one of you – family member, friend, bride, groom, coordinator, florist, DJ, etc.

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day.
