Philadelphia Engagement Photographer | 30th Street Station | Jenny + Casey

You are just going to flip over these pictures from Jenny and Casey’s engagement session at 30th Street Station the other week. The lighting was incredible, they were absolutely adorable and affectionate, and we got ourselves into some great situations. This session was fantastic because it really shows how the location can tie into a couple’s past and make pictures that are that much more special.

For a little bit of background, Jenny and Casey met… out… somewhere in Boston. He was hitting on her while she was with some co-workers and Jenny, being the firecracker that she is, made him work for her attention by grilling him on what he did and how he gave back to his community. He apparently answered correctly because he got a “yes” this past winter when he popped the question on a trip to South Africa. Jenny had been in the Peace Corps and Casey was originally going to wait until the leg of the trip that had them in Mozambique, the place that holds her heart. Weather made them change their plans around and a sunset on a South African beach doesn’t sound too shabby to me!

We met at Philadelphia’s gorgeous 30th Street Station for the engagement session. Due to work and living in different places, it was the perfect location. According to Jenny, “During our dating, we have spent a lot of time traveling to see each other - happy hellos and mournful goodbyes.”

I just love the platform there.

Haven’t I told you how dangerous engagement sessions can be? We were taking pictures when a police officer approached us and sternly let us know that this couple looked entirely too in love and having too much fun and promptly handcuffed them! It was hilarious!

They made a quick change and we walked across the street to get some images of the two of them in running clothes. She’s been a runner for a while and Casey picked it up with her. A route starting near the train station and winding along the Schuylkill was familiar to them. Casey has supported Jenny in her running and even ran the last few miles of the Philadelphia marathon with her.

Check out this gorgeous ring! Jenny didn’t want a traditional diamond ring so Casey came up with this antique and custom beauty.

Jen and Casey, thanks so much for sharing with me. I can’t wait for the wedding – it’s right around the corner!

Philadelphia Engagement Photographer | Fairmount Park | Rachel + Jon

Rachel is a top notch sleuth. She found pictures of an engagement session at an undisclosed location and worked some crazy detective skills to find it for us. As it turns out, it was in a part of Fairmount Park near the Horticultural Center. The light was beautiful, everything was lush, and there wasn’t a soul around – the perfect combination for a session.

Let me give you some background on these two. I love how they met. Jon and his roommate had a room for rent in their NYC apartment a few years ago. Rachel showed up to check it out and ended up talking endlessly with Jon. She never took the room but they saw each other on gchat a few weeks later while he was in Turkey and she was giving him recommendations for where to go. (Or was it the other way around?) Needless to say, they hit it off and Jon proposed in April. They were dancing earlier in the day in their apartment (something they do at least once a week) and they were leaving to go out as he asked her to hold on to something and handed her the box. It just felt like the right time. He later realized he still needed to get down on one knee and took care of that part of the equation too.

They came down from Chicago and we were off on our engagement session adventure. Isn’t this little wooden bridge and structure just awesome?!

There really wasn’t another soul around. It felt like the place was created just for us. We actually had to pull some Indiana Jones moves to get out of there that day.

Rachel loves this little smile that Jon has. And really, who can blame her?

This was an image that we recreated from a picture Rachel took of some unknown couple once. Just the sweetness and intimacy of lying down together, hand in hair was just divine.

Rachel and Jon, can’t wait to see you two in just a few short weeks for your wedding at the Community Arts Center. I'm excited to see what we can do there!

Lancaster Wedding Photographer | Inn at Leola Village | Sarah + Kevin

I knew Sarah and Kevin’s wedding at Lancaster‘s Inn at Leola Village was going to be a good time and completely stylish. Kevin is a musician (a drummer, to be precise) and had some entertainment planned for us that night. In addition, as I was walking around the venue before shooting that day I learned that a pretty large group was at the bar the night before loading up on Irish Car Bombs. Just saying. Oh, and you remember Sarah and Kevin from their engagement session around West Chester back in March.

The venue was gorgeous. There were so many nooks and crannies to wander around and use for pictures. I could have spent days there!

The ladies were getting ready at the poolside suite. The rooms were beautiful and each one was different. Sarah’s Paloma Blanca gown was stunning. She looked absolutely incredible in it.

And let me tell you about her hot GUESS glittery slingback pumps. Better yet, here they are. They had 4 inch + heels and were pure awesome.

I had a few minutes with Sarah before the ceremony. We took advantage of the wine cellar (complete with chandelier!) by the restaurant.

Her bridal bouquet by Matlack Florist of dark calla lilies, orchids, greens, and feathers was one of the most unique I’ve ever seen.

The main room at the Casa di Fiori looked fantastic. I loved the fabric draping that framed the ceremony site. The room itself with large windows, lush curtains, and a stone fireplace was sheer perfection.

In addition to personal readings by family and friends, Sarah and Kevin had a beautiful candle ceremony in which the flame from the couple’s candle was used to light the tapers of every guest in the room.

Kevin was initially reprimanded by the officiant for his first kiss. He was ordered a re-do with more oomph!

The light after the ceremony was just perfect.

Guests mingled in the lobby and outside for cocktail hour as the room was quickly refreshed for the reception.

The bridal party was introduced and Sarah and Kevin danced their first dance to “Steady as We Go” by Dave Matthews Band.

We heard toasts which included a demonstration of life growing up with Kevin by his brother, Dan.

And then the night erupted into a rocking good time. Philadelphia Funk Authority had every guest out on the dancefloor, punctuated by Kevin and his bandmates playing some sets for a very receptive audience.
